Devin and I were invited by one of his friends to attend a tea ceremony. It was a fascinating experience. Everything is very structured and ritualistic, and all to show respect and politeness. There was water on the stoop of the home in front of the door and we were told that water is sprinkled outside the door as a sign of welcome. Once inside we took off our shoes and put on clean socks we were instructed to bring. We were offered sweets and tea one at a time, starting with the most respected guest. There was much bowing as we participated in this very old tradition.
